Pharmaceutical Engineering

Pharmaceutical Engineering

Pharmaceutical engineers are involved in the conception, design, construction, and operation of research facilities and manufacturing plants, where they also are involved in the conception, design, scale-up, manufacturing, and labeling and packaging processes in the conversion of chemical and biological materials into valuable pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical therapies. They have to implement FDA regulations, validation assurance (VA), quality control, and maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) compliant facilities. In addition to the safety of the end product, they have to maintain a level of personal and environmental safety.

What is Manufacturing Operations Transformation?
Manufacturing Operations Transformation (MOT) is the continuation (or beginning) of business transformation that aligns manufacturing IT/OT systems to provide both operational and business improvements. This transformation embraces many of the same aspects of the broader global business transformation including reducing the number of applications, centralized management and support of the tools used, digitization and standardization of processes, implementing global best practices, performance management and KPI tracking. We can think of MOT as a maturity model for manufacturing operations. A plant might have started with automation and the gains of productivity and repeatability that brings, and matured using IT and software applications. Manufacturing Operations Transformation has a holistic approach to all the operational shop floor activities including production, material logistics, quality management and asset management, enabled by a digitalization platform for plant-wide integration and process based collaboration of people and systems including accessibility and visibility of information for both the plant functions and the supply chain.
